Joint application: Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands want the 2027 World Cup

The 2027 Women’s World Cup could take place in Europe. Shortly before the deadline on Friday, the football associations from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands submitted a joint application to FIFA.

In addition to the European bid, Brazil and the US, together with Mexico, also have high expectations of hosting the tournament. Another country, South Africa, had applied for the event but withdrew its application in the hope of better chances in 2031.

“Women’s football is developing rapidly. The number of girls interested in football is huge and we are seeing ever-growing interest from fans. We would like to support FIFA in its task to shape an exciting future for women’s football,” the associations wrote in a joint statement.

The associations mention as possible locations: Anderlecht (Brussels), Charleroi, Genk, Ghent, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Heerenveen, Enschede, Rotterdam, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne. To avoid long journeys, all destinations are a maximum of 300 kilometers apart.
