St. Moritz GR will not receive the 2026 Olympic ice rink races as a Christmas present. It will now be January before a decision is made on which track will host the 2026 Olympic trials in bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. However, St. Moritz and Innsbruck (A) remain the only two serious options that could replace the failed new bobsleigh track project in Cortina (It).

The Italian organizers of the Milan-Cortina Games were unable to reach a decision at their conference this week as previously thought. According to “La Stampa”, the Olympic OK does not want to discuss what happens next until December 19. And then make a final decision at the end of January.

Now there is the threat of a mudslinging battle with the IOC

The Italians are playing for time because they may fully confront the IOC. The IOC has made it publicly clear that it is calling for the bobsleigh track to be moved abroad to an existing bobsleigh track.

But the Italians also want to exert pressure from national politics to avoid the shame of not being able to provide venues for all the competitions and dream of rebuilding the long-disused bobsleigh track in Cesena, which was built for Turin in 2006 to be put into use.

The renewed postponement now gave more time to plan the crazy project: repairing a bobsleigh track that had been in disrepair for ten years, for tens of millions of euros, against the wishes of the IOC. Follow-up to follow.
