Shortly after the 3-0 defeat against Italy in Parma, Reto Gertschen (58) announced that his intermezzo as Nati coach would end after two games. He returns to his role as head of trainer training at the SFV. Despite the defeat at the end, he did his duty. With the victory over Sweden, third in the World Cup, the national team managed to at least put a somewhat conciliatory end to a difficult year.

The big question now is: who will lead the national team to the European Championship at home in 2025? Nati director Marion Daube and a committee consisting of her, Patrick Bruggmann, Robert Breiter, Pierluigi Tami and Laurent Blanc are responsible for filling the key personnel. A number of interesting applications have already been received – including from abroad – and the group of candidates should be reduced to a trio by mid-January. The new boss should be in place by February at the latest, when the national team travels south for a training camp.

“He or she must have clear handwriting and be assertive,” says Daube. Players also consider high social skills and good communication as important qualities. Daube and Co. awaits. The SFV is also looking for someone who wants to take on the role of sporting director. This runs parallel. One thing is clear: the association will not be able to relax during the holidays.
