The retirement is legendary: at the end of December 2022, Matthias Mayer (33) announced live on TV that he is retiring from skiing. It is not only the ORF reporter present who is completely surprised. At the beginning of this year, Mayer won his third Olympic gold.
Since his dismissal, he has appeared in the ski circus as an advisor to the Austrian ski team. Now there is an additional role: Mayer will become an ambassador for the 2025 World Ski Championships in Saalbach (A).
«Skiing was and still is my life. I was enthusiastic about the overall concept for the World Cup in Saalbach and am convinced that I will be able to experience a real sports festival in February 2025,” Mayer said in a statement.
