The Swiss women will meet Slovakia on Friday (7 a.m. Swiss time) in the quarter-finals of the World Floorball Championships in Singapore, just like two years ago.
The Slovaks won the round of 16 against the hosts from Singapore 11:2 after an even start. The Swiss women have good memories of the Eastern European women. At the World Cup two years ago they also defeated Slovakia 12-1 in the quarter-finals.
In general, the quarter-finals for the Slovaks are an almost insurmountable obstacle in the rigid hierarchy of floorball. At the last four World Cups they always lost in the round of the last eight.
In Singapore, Slovakia managed to win in the group stage (5:3 against Poland) in three games. The games against the favorites Czech Republic (1:9) and Sweden (3:20) were clearly lost.
If Switzerland qualified for Saturday’s semi-finals, defending champion Sweden (quarter-finals against Latvia) would probably wait there. (SDA/yap)
