Two new hosts: six sprint races in the next Formula 1 season

Next season, additional championship points will be awarded in six sprint races in Formula 1.

Shanghai and Miami join the calendar as new hosts for sprint races that were previously held on Saturday. Sprints are also being held again in Austria, Austin, Brazil and Qatar. The sprints in Azerbaijan and Belgium are cancelled.

The future format of the sprint weekends is still unclear. The Formula 1 committee will decide on any changes at the beginning of 2024. There is discussion about bringing forward qualifying for the sprint race from Saturday to Friday. The sprint could then be driven on Saturday afternoon, before qualifying for the Grand Prix on Sunday. (SDA)
