UBS will support the Swiss national football teams at least until 2028. The bank thus continues the 30-year partnership that began with Credit Suisse in 1993. As before, the collaboration includes all national junior and senior teams in men’s and women’s football, the national beach football team, the national eFootball team and the promotion of young talent in Switzerland.
UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti (63) explains in the Blick interview that there have never been any doubts about continuing the commitment. Moreover, sponsorship is a matter of the heart: “It is an opportunity for us to make sponsorship more emotional. Other areas that we sponsor in a very targeted manner are education and culture. These are very business-oriented sponsorships. That is not the focus in football. This is about creating an emotional experience for the wider audience.”
“Today is a historic day for Swiss football. We are grateful and happy to have UBS at our side as a strong partner and that we can continue to have a strong foundation for the future,” says SFV President Dominique Blanc.
Commitments in other sports open
It is not known how much the bank pays as the main partner of Swiss football. As before, half of all contributions will go directly to young talent and the women’s and men’s national teams will receive the same bonuses if they are successful. UBS will act as main partner of the senior national teams for the first time next summer. Until then, the Credit Suisse logo will still be visible.
The future of further involvement in the sport remains open. Following the acquisition of Credit Suisse, UBS will initially fulfill all contracts until 2025. Until then, the sponsorship activities will be scrutinized and the new portfolio of the merged bank will be defined. (bct)
