Last year, Mujinga Kambundji and Marco Odermatt were voted athlete of the year.

The twelve nominated athletes represent six sports, with the athletics (with last year’s winner Mujinga Kambundji) and alpine skiing (with last year’s winner Marco Odermatt) divisions well represented with four and three nominees respectively.

Odermatt could win the award for the third time in a row. The two-time overall World Cup winner will be challenged by decathlete Simon Ehammer, wrestler Samuel Giger, hurdler Jason Joseph, freeskier Andri Ragettli and mountain biker Nino Schurter.

Will Gut-Behrami win again after seven years?

Among the women, Mujinga Kambundji, the Swiss athlete from 2019 and 2022, is not the only nominee who has already received the coveted trophy. However, Lara Gut-Behrami’s award was seven years ago. In addition to the duo, Jasmine Flury (alpine skiing), Mathilde Gremaud (freestyle skiing), Marlen Reusser (cycling) and Mujinga’s younger sister Ditaji Kambundji (athletics) are also available.

The prizes will be awarded during a TV show in Zurich. In the program, which is broadcast live by all three state broadcasters (including from 8:05 PM on SRF 1), viewers can help determine the winner via televoting. The six nominees have been pre-selected by top Swiss athletes and the sports media.

This is how voting works

The selection was made by athletes who have delivered excellent performances in the election period between November 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023. The results of the primaries (media and top athletes) count for two-thirds, those of the televoting for one-third.

The live broadcast conducted by Fabienne Gyr and Rainer-Maria Salzgeber will also honor the winners in the team, Paralympic athletes, trainers and MVP categories. The young talent award ‘SRF 3 Best Talent Sport’ also honors the greatest Swiss young talent. (SDA)
