Niels Hintermann finished 33rd in training on Tuesday, losing more than two seconds off the best time. 24 hours later the man from Zurich reports with the third best time.

“Before the first training I was influenced by the preliminary reports that this year’s “Birds of Prey” was much icier than normal. I opted for a material setup that works particularly well on ice. “That was a bad decision, because the track is not nearly as clear as advertised,” says Hintermann. “I therefore chose a different ski model for the second training and adjusted the boots and immediately felt comfortable.”

Marco Odermatt lost 1.63 seconds off the best time to the surprising Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin in eleventh place. Just like on Tuesday, the two-time overall World Cup winner made up most of the deficit in the flat section after the start. «The start was slightly better than during the first training. But we also know that our relatively hard skis only work particularly well at a certain speed,” says Odermatt. And about the conditions, which are not as tough as advertised, he says: “You don’t expect an icy slope here. It’s perfect.”

The training ends badly for Broderick Thompson: the Canadian has to be flown to hospital by helicopter after a fall.
