Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia defends his MotoGP world title.

Francesco Bagnaia (26) is, just like last year, world champion in the MotoGP. The Italian Ducati rider wins the last race of the season in Valencia.

The decision on the World Cup title comes early. Bagnaia’s last remaining competitor Jorge Martin, who should have made up fourteen points, risks too much in the sixth round and falls. In the battle for 5th place he hits the handlebars of Marc Marquez, who also ends up in the gravel trap.

Ultimately, the Spaniard would not have been able to win his first title in the Ducati customer team anyway. Bagnaia celebrated his seventh victory of the season in the last race; even if Martin had been successful, a 5th place would have been enough for him. He has a narrow lead over Fabio Di Giannantonio and Johan Zarco, both of whom also ride the dominant Ducati. (SDA/mbi)
