Just looking at it hurts! Shortly after the start of the second half, Luzern’s Ardon Jashari and Winti’s Thibault Corbaz collided in the center circle. The duo collapses to the ground – and while Corbaz looks around in a daze, Jashari notices after attracting attention: there is blood flowing! Lots of blood! Both players cannot continue, they disappear into the locker room with a grumpy head. Where the doctors immediately stitched Jashari’s laceration above his eye.

Jashari of all people! During the national team’s break, the 21-year-old caused a stir as he did not want to join the U21 national team. The result was much criticized. Blick football expert Stéphane Hechoz accused Jashari of arrogance, Blick columnist Kubilay Türkyilmaz called for a one-year ban from the Nati. An explanation from Jashari’s side for the U21’s refusal was announced but has not yet been given.

No wonder, when Jashari returned to the limelight, all eyes were on him. Apparently not a problem for the FCL captain: until the blood shock shortly after the break, Jashari played extremely well, winning countless balls and initiating almost every FCL attack. When he has to go into the dressing room at 1-0, the home team loses control of the game, concedes the score at 1-1 and is close to the second goal. Chance?

He attacks critics

No, thinks FCL coach Mario Frick. “Without him we have lost order. It didn’t surprise me at all that he played like that after the turbulence, Ardon has great qualities.”

And then Frick, unprompted, attacks the numerous Jashari critics: “Many people have commented in recent days. It would be better: shut up! Instead of claiming things without knowing anything about agreements.”

Agreements? Frick doesn’t go into details. However, the FCL coach sets the bar quite high for the explanation for the U21 cancellation announced by Jashari’s environment…

However, Frick’s inflammatory speech is not a reflection of his post-match mood. It’s actually good. Despite Jashari’s performance, Lucerne’s defense chief Denis Simani made it 2-1 – in the middle of Winterthur’s pressure phase. The unexpected lead thaws the ice-cold home fans. And after the 3-1 victory of crowd favorite Assumah Abubakar, hearts are finally warm.

Curious: Even though the win wasn’t essential for Lucerne, it makes sense. Victory and defeat have been alternating for the Central Swiss team for six games. Are you going on the roller coaster in Lugano next week?
