Where is Marco Odermatt?

Many trainers and athletes asked themselves this question on Wednesday morning at the Copper Mountain ski area (USA). While his major international opponents Marco Schwarz (Ö), Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Nee) and Alexis Pinturault prepare for the start of downhill training, the two-time World Cup winner, world champion and Olympic champion does not show up for the course.

Shortly afterwards, the man from Nidwalden gave the explanation in an interview with Blick: “I was shot quite badly in the back the day before during Super-G training, so I have to take a break.” It is not yet possible to predict how long Odermatt’s break will last.

Coach Helmut Krug: “Marco’s intervertebral disc was considerably compressed during this training after a short turn, which caused inflammation. He receives excellent care from our medical department here. But since we don’t want to take any chances with next week’s races at Beaver Creek, I’m not sure if Marco will do any ski training this week.

In case Odermatt’s condition does not improve by the time of the downhill and the Super-G on the “Birds of Prey”, Germany’s former slalom king Felix Neureuther (39) has a tip, which is anything but free: “I “I also suffered a serious blow to my back before the World Championships in Beaver Creek in 2015 and therefore had a special cortisone injection at the renowned Steadman Clinic before the slalom. This injection cost me $12,000.”
