Eddy Yusof quits.

Swiss artistic gymnastics loses one of its flagships. Eddy Yusof retires from top sport.

The 29-year-old from Zurich attributes his decision to physical complaints. Lately he has been suffering from pain in his back and shoulder. With an eye to next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, it was clear to him “that I would have to have a healthy body if I were to participate.” Yusof considered the possibility that the health situation would have improved to the necessary extent in the coming months to be unrealistic.

European Championship bronze and Olympic diploma

The bridge and all-round specialist was part of the national team for ten years. He was part of the team that won the bronze medal in the team competition at the European Championships at home in Bern seven years ago.

Yusof represented Switzerland twice at the Olympic Games, in 2016 and 2021. More than two years ago in Tokyo, he achieved an Olympic diploma for 6th place with the team. Five years earlier in Rio de Janeiro he took 12th place in the all-around, which gave him the best Swiss result in 32 years and 11th place from Sepp Zellweger in Los Angeles. In addition to his performances in the five rings, Yusof also participated in the World and European Championships five times in his long career.

Yusof wants to remain faithful to artistic gymnastics. In addition to his master’s degree from the University of Education in Zurich, he also aims to complete his training as a trainer. (SDA)
