How often does Switzerland participate?

The national team is participating in a European Championship in Germany for the sixth time, for the third time in a row. It celebrated its premiere in England in 1996 when it was eliminated after the preliminary round in a group with the host countries, the Netherlands and Scotland. The biggest success came in 2021, when the national team reached the quarter-finals thanks to a round of 16 win against then world champions France, where they failed in a penalty shootout against Spain.

What is the mode?

There will be six groups of four teams each. The preliminary round matches last until June 26. The top two in each of the six groups, as well as the four best third-placed teams, qualify for the round of 16, which starts on June 29. From that moment on it continues in the knockout system.

Who is already qualified?

In addition to host country Germany and Switzerland, these are Spain, Scotland, France, the Netherlands, England, Turkey, Albania, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Denmark, Romania, Portugal, Slovakia and Serbia.

Which pot will Switzerland be in?

Currently, before the final qualifiers, we are in pot number four. If the national team wins in Romania, they will go to pot two as group winners. When allocating the pot, sporting qualification criteria are taken into account: 1. Placement. 2. Number of points. 3. Goal difference. 4. Goals scored. 5. Away goals scored. 6. Number of wins. 7. Penalties. 8th place in the Nations League. In addition to host country Germany, pot one includes: Portugal, France, England, Belgium and Spain.

When does qualifying end?

The European qualifiers run until Tuesday. Then 21 of the 24 teams will be known. The last three tickets will be played in March in the play-offs between the twelve best teams in the Nations League that did not secure a European Championship ticket through qualifying matches. The mode is hard! Just ask an Italian… There are three groups of four, with semi-finals and finals. Only the winners of these groups go to Germany. Defending champions Italy will be threatened with this hot situation again if they lose to Ukraine after their failure in North Macedonia in 2022. Of course, it was the World Cup then. But the same mode.

How do you get tickets?

For fans of qualified teams such as Switzerland, there are country-specific tickets that can be requested after the group draw from December 4. The first general ticket sales period ended on October 26. 1.2 million tickets were distributed among the people, which had to be raffled because UEFA had received 20 million applications. A final general sales phase will take place shortly before the tournament and shortly before the start of the knockout round. But only for those who applied unsuccessfully in October.
