Anwar El Ghazi (28) is suing football club Mainz 05, the ‘Allgemeine Zeitung’ and ‘Bild’ report. The Dutch-Moroccan footballer was fired after anti-Israeli posts on Instagram and his contract, which runs until 2025, was terminated without notice. Now El Ghazi is said to have filed a dismissal protection claim with the Mainz labor court. His lawyer does not believe the termination is legal. The club has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
El Ghazi has only been playing in Mainz since the end of September. Since then he has played three games. So far he has played twice for the Dutch national team. (mom)
