It remains difficult: Wendy Holdener also does not reach the podium in the second slalom in Levi. Rank 8.

Before the season it was clear to Wendy Holdener (30): “I want to fight for victories again.” Logically, the memories of her first two slalom victories in the World Cup in Killington (USA) and Sestriere (Italy) are particularly sweet. Holdener had to fight for them for years, taking podium after podium, but never winning. And today? Holdener must realize that, at least in Levi (Fi), she is still far from the top podium.

12th place in the first, 8th place in the second slalom. They are behind the winners: 3.49 seconds on Petra Vlhova (28, Slk) on Saturday and 1.41 seconds on Mikaela Shiffrin (28, USA) on Saturday. That’s a lot, a lot. Especially since Vlhova also had a huge lead in the second race before merging. Shiffrin says: “Petra deserved to win. If she had crossed the finish line, she would probably have won by a second and a half.”

“The tide can turn quickly”

After a perfect summer, Holdener doesn’t seem relaxed in Levi’s refrigerator. Unlike her top competitors, she can’t really handle the slope, which is re-watered from Friday to Saturday. Alpine director Hans Flatscher tells Blick: “Wendy couldn’t quite get it done. She didn’t drive playfully, she lacked agility.”

He sees no mental problem. “Wendy just couldn’t get the perfect feel for this snow. But the tide can quickly turn again. It’s clear to me that you don’t have to worry about Wendy.”

Gisin is the second best Swiss woman at 15th place

After the second slalom at SRF, Holdener explains that she briefly went a little crazy after finishing twelfth in the first slalom. “That is counterproductive. Because I know I can do it well, I have to keep a cool head and give the best of myself. I tried that.” The fact is: because Holdener skips the speed races on the Matterhorn, she and her team can analyze everything in peace.

It is almost forgotten that the other Swiss women bake even smaller sandwiches: Michelle Gisin (15th), Camille Rast (19th), Nicole Good (21st) and Mélanie Meillard (28th) score points, but miss an exploit.
