Suzanne Schulting is a star in the short track scene. The Dutch won gold in the 1000 meters at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and can also boast a number of World Cup and European Championship medals. But top sporting achievements are currently out of the question for the 26-year-old.
This week, Schultig posted an Instagram post from her hospital bed, telling her 900,000 followers that she had a serious training accident on Monday.
Schulting sustains a deep flesh wound
She fell on the ice rink and collided with her teammate Xandra Velzeboer, who injured Schulting in the back with the knife. “I slipped today during ice practice and was cut in the back by a knife. The result was a deep flesh wound of 15 to 20 centimeters.”
The wound is quickly sutured in the hospital. “It was of course a shock, but considering the circumstances I am doing well,” she writes. Schulting was fortunate in adversity. She was able to leave the hospital again on Wednesday. But only because she suffered no damage to her muscles. “Without the suit the accident could have been much worse. “I was lucky that the muscles were not damaged further,” she tells RTL News. (sbe)
