Skier Marco Odermatt (26) has a smile on his face after his first ride on the Matterhorn during Wednesday’s training. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (31) is also enthusiastic. “Great, nice to drive. “The route is a dream, especially with this weather,” says the Norwegian. He also thinks that the middle section will be a bit slower, but the amount of fresh snow could also be to blame. “If the slope gets a little faster, then it will be exciting.”
The desire to give something back
The much-discussed jump – up to 70 meters jumping distance – is expected there. But in training the landing was quite rough, says Odermatt. “But that’s not too bad,” says the man from Nidwalden. Otherwise the route suits him. “The steep slope and the beginning with the landscape, that’s really cool,” he says enthusiastically. Only the middle part was still a bit boring, “it didn’t go that fast today”, but that can still change.
No other route was discussed as often in advance as the Gran Becca. Environmental problems also played a role. “These are unnecessary stories that portray skiing in a negative light,” Odermatt said. But he is happy that it can finally start. “We hope that we can give something back with these beautiful photos.”
