Every autumn it makes children’s eyes shine: the Guinness Book of Records. If you leaf through the last issue carefully, you will come across the first Swiss woman on page four. Speed surfer Heidi Ulrich (38) secured a place in the book with her speed record on the windsurfing board. She raced across the water at an incredible 87.15 kilometers per hour (47.06 knots) in the Lüderitz Speed Challenge in 2022 – making her the fastest surfer in the world.
The mention in the legendary book is a big surprise for Ulrich. “My sponsor only brought this to my attention last week. Everyone around me was very happy!” Although she was never one of the kids who wanted the Guinness Book of Records every Christmas, it was still a secret dream to be part of it.
The woman from Uri, who is currently training in Ireland, naturally ordered a copy immediately. Although she is now included in the book, the subject of records is not over. Her goal is clear: “I want to be the first woman in the world to windsurf at a speed of 50 knots.”
