It is a feeling that Aline Danioth (25) is feeling for the first time. «I could say with a clear conscience that I am starting a new phase of my life. Because I have achieved all my goals in recent years. “That gives me great inner peace,” she says.
The 25-year-old from Uri is not thinking about dismissal. Not even after her fourth cruciate ligament tear, which she suffered eight months ago. On the contrary: she is working hard in rehabilitation as usual, completing her fitness training and making progress day after day. “I don’t have to anymore, but I do want to go skiing again.”
“These months are particularly sensitive”
Danioth is doing well. “I have no pain, the doctors are very happy.” Nevertheless, caution and patience are required. “From the outside everything looks good. But the inside of my right knee is still healing. Months seven to nine after a cruciate ligament tear are particularly delicate. According to the plan, Danioth should be back on skis for the first time in December. This winter, sixth place at the World Cup will hardly be racing in the slalom in Méribel (Fr).
The cheerful Andermatt is aware that she may have one last chance to regain her position at the World Cup. Something else is crucial for her: “The doctors say that despite the four cruciate ligament tears, I don’t have to worry about the long-term consequences. If this were the case, I wouldn’t try it. Because even at the age of forty I want to ski, climb and mountaineer.”
Danioth teaches Pilates classes
Some have long advised Danioth to put top sport aside. She doesn’t blame anyone. “People see the facts: four ACL tears, seven operations in the last seven years. That’s right. But as a little girl, skiing was my first love, so you don’t give up something so easily.”
Nevertheless: Danioth has reached a point in her life where she would be happy even without a racing comeback. She is in the middle of training to become a Pilates coach and has already given lessons. This is something she could also imagine later.
This is all still in the future. For the time being, she wants to get back on the slopes – with new enthusiasm and expanded horizons.
