Competition director Denis Vaucher (57) told MySports on Friday evening: “We appeal to the personal responsibility of the players, as every player is already free to wear a neck protector to increase their own safety. In our opinion, the introduction of mandatory neck protection is therefore not absolutely necessary. If the club officials or the players’ association prefer a league-wide solution, they can submit a corresponding request at any time.

Jonas Hiller (41) is the chairman of the SIHPU players’ association. And he told MySports: “An immediate requirement for neck protection would be wrong.” Nevertheless, the former NHL and Nati goalie wants to address the important issue and present solutions based on the players’ feedback.
