Mainz wants to take legal action: After pro-Palestine message: El Ghazi case escalates

Mainz announces legal action against its player Anwar El Ghazi.

FSV Mainz 05 is in a serious sporting crisis. The club of Nati stars Silvan Widmer and Edimilson Fernandes are at the bottom of the table and have not achieved a single victory in nine matches. To make matters worse, there is a fire in Mainz, right next to the field. Because the El Ghazi case is in danger of escalating completely.

The Dutch-Moroccan attacker only joined FSV on a free transfer at the end of September. So far, he has not attracted attention there for his sporting achievements, but rather for his pro-Palestine posts on social media. Among other things, he used a saying from Hamas to deny Israel’s right to exist. Mainz didn’t let him get away with that and suspended him for about two weeks.

First pardoned – now there are legal consequences

El Ghazi resumed training at the beginning of this week. Mainz said in a statement that the player had shown remorse in conversations with club management and had credibly put his attitude into perspective. But puff pastry cake. Today he announced in a detailed message that his opinion remains unchanged.

“I don’t regret my position at all. I do not distance myself from what I said.” He stands up for the oppressed “until his last breath” and is not accountable to anyone. All the apologies circulating online were published without his permission and are simply wrong. He is probably referring to the statement from his employer Mainz 05 early this week.

El Ghazi’s renewed statement now forces Mainz to respond. The club announced that the player had been on sick leave since Monday and missed training. The attacker’s statements were noted “with surprise and incomprehension” and legal action against El Ghazi is now being considered. Unrest that comes at an inopportune time for Mainz in its sporting struggle for survival. (sbe)
