Parma surprisingly reached the eighth finals of the Coppa Italia. On Wednesday evening, the Serie B club will play against US Lecce from the top division. Playing a key role in the underdog: former Swiss junior national player Simon Sohm (22). The central midfielder took the lead from the edge of the penalty area after nine minutes, laying the foundation for his team’s surprising success.

In the end, Parma won the round of 16 against upper division Lecce 4-2, with Sohm on the field the entire distance. Crazy: At the start of extra time it was still 2-2. But thanks to a dramatic double blow deep into stoppage time (94th, 97th), the Serie B leaders secured a very dramatic last-minute victory and advanced to the next round.

Zeqiri also scores in the cup

Sohm is not the only Swiss who can register as a goalscorer in a national cup competition on Wednesday evening. Nati striker Andi Zeqiri (24) is also making things restless. The Vaudois scored the 3-0 in KRC Genk’s comfortable 4-0 victory in the Belgian Cup against third division club URSL Vise. This is Zeqiri’s fourth goal of the season in all competitions. (sbe)
