Alexander Zverev (26) is currently attending the Paris Masters. There he won a hard-fought three-set victory (4:6, 7:5, 6:4) against Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics on Tuesday. But that becomes a side note. Because the Public Prosecution Service in Berlin has issued a serious criminal order against the ninth man in the world rankings.

Serious accusations from ex-girlfriend

The German judiciary has sentenced Zverev to a fine of 450,000 euros. What is required is that the tennis professional pays the fine in the form of 90 daily rates of 5,000 euros each.

Zverev is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea (29) in May 2020. He has a daughter with Patea. The exact wording of the indictment reads as follows: “The suspect is accused of physically abusing a woman and damaging her health during an argument in Berlin in May 2020.”

Zverev defends himself

However, the tennis star has appealed the verdict. This will likely lead to a larger lawsuit. He commented on the allegations in the summer and said at the time: “I completely reject the allegations. My lawyers are handling the case. I won’t say anything more about it.”

Allegations of violence have been made in the past. His ex-girlfriend Olga Sharipova (24) related similar experiences. But Zverev obtained an injunction against the Russian from the court, describing the allegations as “defamatory and false”. (sbe)
