Tenth competitive defeat in a row. But Urs Fischer is still in the saddle at Union Berlin.

Director Oliver Ruhnert of the Bundesliga football club Union Berlin did not publicly count coach Urs Fischer even after the tenth league defeat in a row. “He has the impression that he is reaching the team, so we will first discuss internally what we can do,” the 51-year-old told Sky after the Champions League side’s 2-0 defeat at Werder Bremen.

“It is a story that we are currently experiencing and that we have never experienced in this form before. We all want to make it a success again together,” Ruhnert said a little later in the mixed zone of the Weser Stadium.

An achievement that worries him

He now wants to ‘talk openly and honestly’ with those responsible. Ultimately, the coach is relatively powerless if you shoot the balls yourself, according to the director.

However, Ruhnert clearly criticized the performance of the team, which was in serious trouble and had not scored since August 26: “The performance was such that you can worry. For the first time in all these years, we find ourselves in a situation where the survival of the competition is at stake.” (AFP/SME)
