Bernhard Russi was one of the first to congratulate him in 2009 when Didier Defago won the downhill classics in Wengen and Kitzbühel within a week. The 2010 Olympic champion is now under fire as the architect of the Matterhorn descent. But Russia is clearly in favor of Defago.

The start of the Football World Cup in October will not be on time due to global warming

We can only assess this statement annually after the first races. In the run-up to these races we will always experience autumn. Sometimes cold and wet, but sometimes also with summer temperatures. Then I understand the question: do we really want to go skiing? Or the desire to get into the mountains and the snow as quickly as possible.

Snow sports are an important part of tourism, which we need especially in the mountains and in the Alpine valleys. The races are an important factor in this. If we know what global warming is, the question is absolutely justified: how much entertainment, how much free time, how much desire to travel do we want and can we afford? Indoor swimming pools, artificial ice rinks, open air – is that possible?

So if implemented correctly and sensibly, early October is absolutely okay. But if circumstances do not allow it, you should not create a doomsday scenario and immediately start looking for someone to blame.

The new fluorine ban will cause total chaos

I don’t eat it as hot as it is cooked. Rules are there to be implemented, but also to be monitored. Crimes must be clearly proven. Otherwise, the bans will have to be lifted, even at short notice, and their entry into force will have to be postponed.

Slope architect Didier Defago made a serious line error when planning the Matterhorn descent

No! We should try to put the whole discussion into perspective.

The exact boundary of the zone in question is not marked with fences. It meanders along the terrain. If we assume that the slope is about two kilometers long and about 50 meters wide, we are talking about 100,000 m2 of surface area in snow-white terrain. I ask the question: Couldn’t there also be a certain tolerance here, for example when driving too fast? Five percent would then correspond to 5000 m2.

However, based on the downhill plan, the construction committee, before inspecting it on site, noted that some of the installations were located in a very small area outside the approved ski area on Swiss territory. With very small I imagine two and three parking fields instead of a football field. That is why I plead for a little more understanding and goodwill.

But it is also very clear that zones and laws must be respected. The correction of this is no problem in Zermatt and is implemented without major changes.

If the start of the Matterhorn descent into Italian territory had to be postponed, it would be a shame for Switzerland

No! There may also be other reasons to postpone the start. Weather, wind or visibility! And in a year no one will be talking about it anymore.

Marco Odermatt will win the overall World Cup for the third time in a row

There is hardly anyone who is against it. Me neither. This sporting success should never be taken for granted; it remains an exceptional achievement. Because there are many disruptive factors: illnesses, injuries, bizarre weather and the question of how good the opponents are. Kilde still has to try out the crowbar! With his two disciplines, Kristofferson is not thinking about the World Cup as a whole. Pinturault will be happy with individual podium finishes in the autumn of his career. That leaves Marco Schwarz. Theoretically yes! But I doubt he can improve significantly in the speed disciplines.

Thanks to Delia Durrer we will also be able to celebrate a Nidwaldner triumph among women

I have been following Delia’s career for about three years. Their steady upward trend also promises success in the top flight. And if a 20-year-old can already boast six Swiss championship titles, it’s proof that she can push herself to the limit at the right time.

AJ Ginnis will score Greece’s first World Cup victory

Why not? The vice world champion was already the fastest, but did not reach the result due to a questionable goal error. I like his aggressive driving style and his acrobatic skills.
