Karateka Elena Quirici (here at the 2021 Olympic Games) is in the World Cup final.

Karateka Elena Quirici will take part in the World Cup finals in the Kumite division on Saturday in Budapest. The 29-year-old from Aargau meets Irina Zaretska in the final of the 68 kg class. The Ukrainian has been competing for Azerbaijan since 2014 and is aiming for her third World Cup gold.

Quirici can win Switzerland’s second World Cup title after 1982, when Javier Gomez was successful. The Swiss has been successful in her sport since 2012: in 2012 she won World Cup bronze, and in 2016, 2018 and 2023 she became European champion. The Olympic fifth place won the gold medal this spring with a victory over Irina Zaretska. (SDA)
