Uproar in the 2nd Bundesliga: Lautern striker is hit in the head by a plastic bottle

1. FC Kaiserslautern launched a protest after the bottle was thrown at Ragnar Ache in the away match at Fortuna Düsseldorf. “We have to discuss,” said director Thomas Hengen after the 3:4 on “Sport1” and added: “It shouldn’t happen like this. That was brutally unsportsmanlike, I don’t know Fortuna fans like that.”

While celebrating after the visitors had taken a 3-0 lead, Ache was hit on the head by a plastic bottle. The match was then interrupted for a few minutes and apparently a withdrawal was looming. After consultation with those involved, referee Benjamin Brand decided to resume the match. Fortuna then turned the game around.

The Düsseldorf team apologized for the incidents after the match. Sports director Klaus Allofs saw the “complete nonsense of this act”. Lautern’s coach Dirk Schuster did not want to comment on the consequences of the incident. «I only judge the matter from a sporting point of view. We did not lose the match by throwing a Coke,” said the coach: “The circumstances now have to be clarified by completely different people.” (AFP)
