Angelique Kerber has set her sights on her comeback.

The return of three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber to the tennis tour after her pregnancy break is taking shape. The 35-year-old, who became a mother for the first time in February, is on the entry list for the United Cup (December 29 to January 7) in Perth and Sydney. In addition to Kerber, Alexander Zverev (26) and Tatjana Maria (36) want to play for the German team in the mixed tournament in the run-up to the Australian Open.

In the summer, Kerber announced the start of the tennis season in Australia as a “clear target” for her comeback. The former world number one has been training in Puszczykowo, Poland for a few weeks and her former successful coach Torben Beltz is also part of the team again. Kerber played her last match on the tour to date in Wimbledon in July 2022.

Nadal renounces the United Cup

Superstar Rafael Nadal (37), who was part of the Spanish team at the premiere last year, did not register for the United Cup. Due to a persistent hip injury, the 22-time Grand Slam champion had not played a match since the Australian Open in January. The 37-year-old is planning his comeback next season and probably on tour last year. (AFP)
