Costa Rica’s Galo may miss Qatar World Cup after positive drug test

Costa Rican Orlando Galo is in danger of missing the World Cup, which starts in Qatar in a month. The 22-year-old midfielder came under an unexpected doping test after a friendly against South Korea. Traces of an anabolic steroid were found on Galo.

Galo has ten caps and was also involved in Costa Rica’s World Cup qualifiers. The player from the Costa Rican club Herediano was not even used in the deliberate game (2:2) in Goyang, South Korea. Four days later he completed the full ninety minutes against Uzbekistan (2-1 win).

FIFA has yet to look into the matter, but it seems good Galo won’t be taking part in the World Cup, where Costa Rica will face Spain, Japan and Germany in Group E.
