Former top 20 player Nick Kyrgios (28) was completely removed from the ATP rankings. The reason: in 2023, the Australian played only one ATP match due to injuries – in mid-June in Stuttgart.

The Australian has since been sidelined with a wrist injury, causing him to miss Wimbledon and the US Open. Before that, he was already struggling with a persistent knee injury that even required surgery at the beginning of this year.

Kyrgios last scored points on the ATP tour in October 2022. However, these recently fell out of the rankings – as a result of his continued failures, he has now lost his place in the ATP rankings. His return is scheduled for the Australian Open next January.

Still in protected rankings

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist is still part of the Protected Ranking. There he is in 21st place. This ranking includes injured players who have been out for more than six months.

When they return to the field, they should be able to compete again in tournaments at ATP level, regardless of wildcards and qualifications. The Protected Ranking classification is calculated based on the player’s average ranking during the first three months of his injury. (sbe)
