Stefan Luitz had an accident during training. The German ski racer suffered a broken ankle during training and is now in danger of missing the upcoming World Cup season entirely. As the German Ski Association announced on Tuesday, the 31-year-old suffered a fracture to the right outer ankle and a tear in the syndesmosis. It is said that Luitz will undergo surgery in the coming days.

Luitz had only ruled out an early end to his career last summer after making his comeback from a hernia the winter before. This injury also forced him to cancel his start at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He had previously returned from further serious knee injuries (cruciate ligament tear in 2017, medial ligament tear in 2019).

Luitz has won one giant slalom in the World Cup so far and has also been on the podium nine times. He won World Cup bronze twice with the team. (AFP)
