Rugby player Arturas Rudy suffers cardiac arrest during the match between Wisbech and Diss.

There are tragic scenes that take place during a rugby match in Cambridgeshire, England between the two teams Wisbech and Diss. In the middle of the game, Wisbech player Arturas Rudy (27) suffered a heart attack after a tough match with his opponent.

Immediately rescue measures are taken and resuscitation efforts are made. But all help comes too late for Rudy. He died a short time later of cardiac arrest.

Rudy is survived by partner Jolita Kiseliovaite and a two-year-old son. Kiseliovaite has now launched an online appeal for donations to keep herself and the child afloat during this difficult time.

Great condolences after tragic death

She addresses the audience emotionally: “I have never asked for money, but I would like to reach everyone and ask for help. I thank you all.” Within a short time, approximately 5,000 pounds (5,500 francs) were raised.

A day after Rudy’s death, the English Rugby Association RFU also spoke out: “On behalf of all RFU employees, we express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Arturas Rudys, who tragically passed away.”

Rudy’s Wisbech club has also been deeply affected: “The club is deeply saddened by yesterday’s events,” said secretary David Dobson.
