Honor for Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka is honored for his 118th international match by the Swiss Football Association (SFV) ahead of the match against Belarus. The association keeps secret who will do the captain’s honor. It is said to be a personality that shaped Xhaka’s life. Heinz Hermann (65), who has held the only national record for almost 36 years, is not there. The Zurich resident has withdrawn from the public and rejected the SFV.

High-level ping-pong duel

One of the favorite pastimes of national team players in their spare time has been table tennis for years. The cracks also duel on the plate in Hotel Säntispark in Abtwil. The best include Fabian Schär and Gregor Kobel, who had an excellent match on Friday – with the better ending for the BVB goalkeeper.

Flight chaos near Belarus

Sunday’s Nati opponent only arrived in Switzerland on Saturday evening. The departure from Budapest, where Belarus played (0-0) against Romania on Thursday, was postponed. The last training in Kybunpark didn’t start until shortly after 9:30 in the evening. There was no press conference. Not a single journalist came from Belarus – and not a fan either.

In the room with Hermann

Murat Yakin played together with Heinz Hermann himself. After moving from Concordia Basel to the rankings in 1992, the Nati coach played one more season alongside the record international. According to Yakin, the two even shared a hotel room during Hermann’s senior year at GC. “It was a huge highlight for me as a teenager,” said the national coach.

Fired by Hermann

Yakin and Hermann met again later in their careers. When Hermann took up his position as sports director at FC Luzern on May 1, 2012, Yakin was coach. But not for long. After more than three months, the sports director fired his coach, but he did not remain in office for much longer. Hermann’s time in Central Switzerland also ended prematurely in February 2013.
