The highlights are six mountain finishes and the journey over 2760 m above sea level. M. Stelvio pass at the beginning of the third week and a Monte Grappa double on the penultimate day. Two individual time trials must be completed. Switzerland is part of the 220 km long 15th stage over an altitude of 5000 meters from Manerba to Mottolino near Livigno.
The longest stretch, which runs from Manerba via Tirano to Poschiavo into the Engadine and further over the Forcola di Livigno, is the highlight. Otherwise, the length of the stages will decrease, following the trend of major tours. Only five stages are more than 185 km long. With an altitude of less than 43,000 meters, the route planners were also careful with this.
The start takes place in Piedmont, where a challenging start from Venaria Reale to Turin is on the program on May 4 and a mountain finish in Oropa on the second day. In the sixth stage between Viareggio and Rapolano Terme, 12 km of gravel awaits you on the Strade Bianche. The two individual time trials will be held in Umbria (7th stage, 37 km) and near Lake Garda (14th stage, 31 km). The end point is a sprint stage in the capital Rome. (SDA)
