The Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation against Juventus player Nicolò Fagioli (22) for online betting on unauthorized websites. In concrete terms, Fagioli is said to have placed bets on illegal websites under different identities.
The midfielder has now informed the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) of his violation. His lawyer Armando Simbari (45) told the LaPresse news agency that he would cooperate with both the judiciary and the sports authorities. The FIGC is also now investigating the matter. If found guilty, Fagioli faces a fine of 25,000 euros and a three-year ban.
Promising career
It would be a tough setback in his young career. Last season he was named the best U23 player in Serie A. This season he has played six league games for Juventus Turin so far. He played one match in the Italian national team.
Fagioli is the second Juventus player in recent history to receive a lengthy sentence. Last Friday it was announced that the B sample of midfielder Paul Pogba (30) also came back positive (increased testosterone level) and that he could receive a suspension of up to four years. (men)
