Those were very turbulent days, says Mika Henauer (23), “a lot happened, it happened in quick succession.” Last Tuesday he was still part of SC Bern, on Wednesday the switch to Kloten was perfect, and on Friday and Saturday the first two games with the new club. A 4-2 win in Biel on their debut and a 0-3 home defeat against the SCL Tigers the day after. “After the great debut there was a setback. Afterwards it was good to clear my head and process everything that had happened before we continued this week,” said Henauer.

The defender was only twenty when he joined his home club SCB. With his creative playing style, Henauer immediately scored 17 points (3 goals/14 assists) and the following year he increased that to 18 (5/13). The next career step to become a national player seemed only a matter of time.

Three shoulder operations – eleven months later

But instead, Henauer learned the downside of the business. He had to undergo shoulder surgery three times and therefore missed eleven months. And at SCB also the connection, the new coach Jussi Tapola could not find a place for him in the top 6. Recently he did not even make the line-up because talent Louis Füllmann (19) was preferred to him.

“It was a difficult situation for me and it certainly didn’t help that I didn’t play for almost a year. But there are also other factors and ultimately it is the coach’s decision that I have to accept,” says Henauer about the past SCB weeks. Now he is happy that a solution has been found that helps him get back into competition practice and rhythm: “I am very happy that I get this opportunity in Kloten.”

Stay in the moment and enjoy

He is somewhat satisfied with his first weekend as a new Klotener. «I had to find myself a bit and there is still room for improvement. I can do more and hope that I can show this in the coming weeks and months,” said Henauer. His loan contract runs until the end of January, but SCB can bring him back at any time if necessary.

But Henauer does not want to think about what could happen and where he will play in February, preferring to stay in the moment: “I enjoy the fact that I can play again.” He was very well received in Kloten, “even though I hardly knew anyone here because I had only been to SCB so far. Now I see that you can’t just have a good life in Bern.”

Henauer still lives in the hotel, but is looking for another accommodation in the area, “because commuting from Bern is not a solution.” When asked whether it would be an option to move to the Marchon brothers’ shared apartment, where young star Mischa Ramel (20) often stays, he replied with a smile: “I haven’t received an offer yet. Maybe I should ask that.”
