Melanie Michel will miss the upcoming season.

Shock for Melanie Michel (23). The rider from Swiss Ski’s C team injured her knee and missed the entire season. The Swiss association announced this on Monday evening.

Michel fell during Super-G training in Saas Fee last Friday and suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, a tear in the lateral meniscus and a tear in the inner collateral ligament. She was operated on in Zurich on the day of the accident.

Michel is combative

“After the fall, while I was still on the slopes, my entire ski world collapsed,” the speed specialist was quoted as saying by the association. But Michel is combative: “As soon as I was in Zurich and was diagnosed, it immediately became clear to me that I was taking on this new challenge. The past few years have shown me that I can come back even stronger after such forced breaks. I can’t change the situation, but I can make the best of it.”

For Walter O. Frey, Swiss-Ski team doctor, it is clear: “Unfortunately, Melanie will not be able to participate in any races this season.” However, if her rehabilitation goes well, he is optimistic that she can tackle the preparations for the 24/25 season normally and together with her team.

Melanie Michel finished in the top ten in the Super-G at the 2022 Swiss Championships and was crowned Swiss Youth Downhill Champion the same year. However, she is still waiting for her World Cup debut. (bjl)
