Cricket will return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Organizers say cricket, baseball/softball, lacrosse, flag football and squash will be added to the 2028 Olympics programme. However, the International Olympic Committee must still approve this decision. This will take place during the IOC session in Mumbai, which starts on Sunday and is considered a formality.

Cricket, considered the second greatest sport in the world, was not played until the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris. With the resumption, the IOC wants to open up the market. According to industry experts, the Olympic broadcast rights are worth more than 175 million euros.

Lacrosse was Olympic in St. Louis in 1904 and in London in 1908, baseball and the women’s version of softball were Olympic in Tokyo in 2021. Squash and flag football, a disembodied version of American football, will be part of the program for the first time.

It is now official that breakdancing will not be part of the Summer Games for the second time in a row after the premiere in Paris next year. (SDA/men)
