Mory Diaw falls victim to an attack.

Bad scene in France: in extra time, Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw (30) is thrown with a burning firework by Montpellier fans. The petard explodes right next to the former Lausanne goalkeeper. Diaw immediately collapses and has to be taken off the field on a stretcher. “He is extremely traumatized,” explains the Clermont doctor.

The referee then stops the game when the score is 4:2 from the home team’s perspective. A little later there was official confirmation that the match would be canceled completely and would not be restarted. In the meantime, security forces are said to have already identified the perpetrator and taken him into custody.

Red card for middle finger – Omeragic is out injured

In response to the throw, Neto Borges (27) of Clermont extends his middle finger to the Montpellier fans. The gesture results in a red card after a VAR intervention.

From a Swiss perspective, there was already a setback in the first half: Becir Omeragic (21), the Swiss U21 international employed by Montpellier, injured his back and had to be substituted. Nothing is currently known about the severity of the injury or any downtime. (sbe)
