Simone Biles wins World Championship silver on vault.

Simone Biles has to settle for a silver medal on the first day of the apparatus final at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp.

The 26-year-old American enters the vault as the big favorite and falls backwards on her extremely difficult creation ‘Biles II’, a Yurchenko with a bent-over double somersault. She also receives a half point deduction because her coach Laurent Landi is on the mat to protect herself.

16 year old wins on uneven bars

With the second jump, Biles can no longer make up for this mortgage. With 14.549 she loses 0.201 points to the Brazilian Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade, who will become world champion on this apparatus for the second time after 2021.

On the uneven bars, her weakest apparatus, Biles placed 5th. On Sunday she has two more chances to expand her impressive medal collection from the World Championships (21/4/3). In Antwerp she won two gold medals (team, all-round) in addition to silver on vault. The 16-year-old Chinese Qiu Qiyuan secured the title on the uneven slopes.

Olympic champion Dolgopyat also world champion

In the men’s category, Israeli Olympic champion Artem Dolgopyat (floor), Irish Rhys McClenaghan (vaulting horse) and China’s Liu Yang (rings) climb to the top podium. For Dolgopyat it is the first World Cup gold, McClenaghan successfully defends the title and Liu beats the Greek Eleftherios Petrounias, three-time world champion, six-time European champion and 2016 Olympic champion, on the rings.
