Kevin Trapp sees the red card in the Conference League match against Paok Saloniki.

After the bitter last-minute setback, Kevin Trapp (33) ran to the PAOK Saloniki bench and tried to mediate the heated crowd. But to the keeper’s surprise, referee Simone Sozza showed him the red card after the final whistle and the 33-year-old was handed his fourth dismissal in his 513th career game at club level – the low point of an incredibly bitter European Cup night for Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I saw a bunch of grapes in front of the players’ tunnel and looked at it calmly,” Trapp told RTL: “Apparently there were strong provocations from PAOK. When I was there, I saw the coach coming out of this cluster and making gestures.”

He continues: “Then I tell him to calm down. Then he says something in my direction, and others said something in my direction. Then the referee gives me a red card, a scandal for me.”

Trapp said at the last minute after the bitter 1:2 (0:1) defeat that he was “offended in English and Greek”. He only replied that “everyone needs to calm down. PAOK players apologized for the behavior of their staff. They go to the referee and say I didn’t do anything. But the referee continues to stick to his opinion and I have very little understanding for that.” (AFP/men)
