Another victory for Dutch cricketers at the World Cup: Namibia is defeated
A nice boost for the Dutch cricketers in the T20 World Cup. In Geelong, Australia, Namibia was also defeated by five wickets. The Netherlands already beat the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.
Last weekend Namibia surprisingly defeated Asian Cup winners Sri Lanka with convincing numbers: 163 for 108 runs, but the Netherlands proved too strong today.
Like last weekend, bowling in the Netherlands was fine. Namibia got no further than 121 runs, partly due to two wickets from Bas de Leede and a superbly played Paul van Meekeren.
Vikramjit Singh got the Oranges off to a good start with 39 runs. Victory was close when Max O’Dowd was forced out for 35 runs. A couple of wickets made it tense, but De Leede decided the game by 30 runs.
Next round no certainty
Despite two wins, it is far from certain that the Netherlands will qualify for the next round. Since the two victories of the Oranien were quite close, the so-called “net run rate” (difference between scored and accumulated runs) can still get in the way of a defeat against Sri Lanka.
The Netherlands now lead Group A with four points, with Namibia following with two points. Today the United Arab Emirates play against Sri Lanka. In two days the Orange team takes on Sri Lanka.
