Due to the absence of Lionel Messi, Inter Miami missed out on the second title of the season. Without the injured world champion, they suffered a 1-2 defeat in the US Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo.

Messi watches the match from a box in the stadium. Jordi Alba also cannot participate. Of the trio that once played together at FC Barcelona and moved to Miami this summer, only Sergio Busquets is on the field. Together, the three led Inter Miami to win the Leagues Cup in August and the first title in the club’s history.

In the MLS, co-owner David Beckham’s team still has a chance to reach the play-offs. It remains to be seen if and when Messi can help again. Miami has not yet made public a precise diagnosis of his leg injury. The seven-time world footballer has already missed three matches for Inter and one international match for Argentina in recent weeks. (SDA)
