Departure at the age of 49: Thurgau’s Stefan Burkhalter ends his wrestling career.

Stefan Burkhalter resigned after the autumn wrestling day in Siebnen last weekend. The farmer from Thurgau did this at the age of 49.

With three wins, two places and one defeat it was enough to finish 8th with distinction at the Herbstwickelet. In 33 seasons, Burkhalter has won a total of 113 wreaths, two of which were federal.

Earlier discharge than expected

Just a month ago, Burkhalter speculated to Blick that he would be competing in wrestling festivals by the end of the year. “There are wrestling festivals that last until December. Just celebrating the big festivals is not an art. I’ve always loved small parties and that will be the case in my final season.”

At that moment he had just missed his desired goal: winning the 114th wreath at his last major festival on the Schwägalp. A disappointment for Burkhalter. Now, a few months before his expected dismissal, he has apparently had enough. (SDA/men)
