For the second time in the history of the Laver Cup, Team World wins the trophy.

The teams from the rest of the world won the Laver Cup against the European team in Vancouver on Sunday evening. At the luxurious show tournament, Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe scored the decisive points in the doubles for a 13-2 victory.

The two Americans defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz and Russian Andrej Rublew in two tiebreaks to secure the three decisive points – a success on Sunday yields three points, Saturday two and one Friday. The first team to reach 13 points wins the event, which was co-founded by Roger Federer in 2017.

Federer’s last match a year ago

Team Europe, whose best-seeded player this year, Rublew, the world number 6, had won the first four editions, and now Team World is victorious for the second time after 2022.

A year ago, Federer ended his career with a doubles match alongside Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup in London. This year the Swiss were guest of honor. In addition to questions from tennis legend Jim Courier, he was also bombarded with questions from the audience or via video link from Nadal and admits: “The exciting moments on the court, scoring match points and lifting trophies: I miss it.” (SDA)
