Simon Ehammer had to give up the decathlon at the World Championships in Budapest in August. The persistent pain caused by an inflamed tendon in the shoulder was noticeable for Appenzeller in the throwing disciplines. So he could only participate in the long jump.
As the 23-year-old now announces to SRF in “Sportpanorama”, he will undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday. The operation was necessary because conservative treatment did not produce the desired results.
“I hope that I will soon be able to throw the javelin without pain again,” says Ehammer optimistically. The goal is to be well prepared for the Summer Olympics in Paris in July 2024. (mab)
