Exploit by Martin Dougoud at the World Championships in Lee Valley.

In England, Martin Dougoud (32) clearly turned out to be the fastest Swiss. Qualifying started early in the morning, with Dougoud setting the fifth fastest time. He then confidently won the preliminary round, quarter-finals and semi-finals. In the final, Geneva only had to admit defeat to the British Joseph Clark and the Frenchman Boris Neveu.

Dougoud won a medal at a world championship for the first time. His previous best World Cup ranking came in 2017 in Pau (Fr) with 15th place. This season, Dougoud moved closer to the top of the world. He already won the silver medal in the kayak skiff at the European Games in Krakow (POL). Dougoud was also part of the Swiss team that won bronze at the 2020 European Championships in Prague.

Great competition in the Swiss team

The kayak cross will have its Olympic premiere next year during the Summer Games in Paris. In Lee Valley, the places for Paris have not yet been allocated.

The competition within the Swiss team is fierce in this discipline: Dimitri Marx, a second Swiss, reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Lee Valley. Marx finished the title fights in 7th place. Switzerland also has the 2022 European kayak cross champion with Jan Rohrer. Rohrer failed in the heats this time and finished 25th. (SDA/mab)
