Lionel Messi (36) does not appear in public very often. He likes to remain silent about his private life; media appearances are rare. If he does offer insights, there is great interest.
So now again. Argentinian comedian Miguel Granados (37) interviews his compatriot for the YouTube format ‘Olga’. The almost 35-minute video has already been viewed three million times after just a few hours.
Moderator creates bizarre scenes
One of the reasons for the great response is a curious teaser video that was released in advance. Moderator Granados and Messi look into the camera together to announce the publication date of the interview.
But before the world champion can say a word, Granados throws his arms around him from behind and kisses him. Messi’s reaction to this blow – wonderful!
But that’s not the only funny scene between the comedian and the football star. At the beginning of the interview, Granados asks Messi to please serve him a soft drink. Surprised, he gets up and fulfills his wish. In another clip, the presenter tries to grab the leg of his high-profile interlocutor, but is suddenly stopped when Messi waves his hand away.
Intimate insights and PSG criticism
Despite the bizarre setting of the interview, Messi gives surprisingly intimate insights into his life and career. The superstar explains, among other things, what his three sons eat for breakfast (toast with hot chocolate) and that he spends too much time on his cell phone. His wish for a daughter is also touching: “I’m still waiting for a girl!”
Messi also speaks extensively about his time at PSG. “The truth is that things didn’t go as expected there,” he admits. What bothers him most is that he was not recognized by his club for winning the World Cup – as the only player in the winning Argentina team. “It was our mistake that France didn’t win the World Cup. PSG didn’t give me any credit for the win.”
But he is happy in Miami, he assures. He recently moved with his family to a $10 million luxury mansion in Fort Lauderdale. He is also satisfied with the challenge of the MLS on a sporting level – especially with the lower pressure. “I want to win, I want to compete, but here it’s more relaxed.” (sbe)
