Marlen Reusser gave herself a gift for her 32nd birthday. The Bernese woman was crowned European time trial champion for the third time in a row in Emmen.
Just over a month after her surprising departure from the World Cup time trial, Marlen Reusser was back in her top discipline in her usual strong way. On the almost 30 km long course in Drenthe, she defeated second-placed Brit Anna Henderson by 43 seconds. The bronze went to Austria’s Christina Schweinberger.
For Reusser, defending his title again with his history was anything but a formality. In August she pulled the rope during the World Cup time trial in Glasgow and gave up the race in tears. Now the Olympic and World Cup runner-up was ready to push herself to the limits of pain and suffering in her first appearance on the time trial machine. (SDA)
